When you book a morning striper trip with Troy's Guide Service on Lake Texoma, you're getting more than just a fishing guide—you're getting a guy who's been grinding these waters for years and knows exactly where the fish are holding. This isn't some cookie-cutter charter operation. Troy's out there at 2 AM catching fresh bait while most people are still sleeping, setting you up for success before you even step foot on the boat. His 4-5 hour morning trips are designed around the fish, not the clock, and he's got the track record to prove it works. Whether you're a seasoned angler or someone who's never held a rod, Troy adapts his approach to make sure everyone on board has a shot at landing quality stripers and blues.
Your day starts early because that's when Lake Texoma's stripers are most active. While Troy's been out since the crack of dawn securing live bait, you'll meet him as the sun's coming up—prime time for that legendary topwater bite. The quieter the lake, the better your chances, so getting out there before the weekend warriors show up is key. Troy runs a tight ship but keeps things relaxed, accommodating up to three anglers per trip. He's got top-shelf rods and reels ready to go, including left-handed setups if you need them (just let him know when you book). The beauty of fishing with someone who lives and breathes these waters is that he reads the conditions like a book. Some days you'll limit out in 30 minutes, other days require more patience, but Troy guarantees at least two hours of active fishing no matter what Mother Nature throws at you.
Troy's bread and butter is live bait fishing, and there's a good reason for that—it flat-out produces on Lake Texoma. Those pre-dawn bait runs aren't just for show; fresh shad and other forage fish are what get these stripers fired up. He's got the technique dialed in, from reading the electronics to positioning the boat in the strike zone. But if you're more of a lure chunker, Troy's got you covered there too. Just speak up when you're booking so he can plan accordingly. The guy knows his artificial presentations and can put you on fish with topwater plugs, jigs, or whatever's working that day. His approach is all about adapting to what the fish want, whether that's drifting live bait through schooling fish or casting cranks over submerged structure. You'll learn techniques that'll make you a better angler long after your trip ends.
"My family of 5 hired Troy for a guided fishing trip this morning. We had a fantastic time. While it seemed like the fishing was going to be slow, we ended up going home with a cooler full of filets. My kids (14, 9, & 7 ) really enjoyed their first fishing trip and Troy was very accommodating! We highly recommend and will definitely be back!" - Erika

The man catered to the ladies like a pro, keeping them happy with fresh bait and good vibes the entire trip. They felt so welcomed, they're already packing for round two! Definitely worth the extra miles for a day of epic fishing and endless laughs." - Daniel

Striped bass are the main attraction on Lake Texoma, and for good reason. These silver bullets can push 20-plus pounds and fight like freight trains once you hook into them. Spring and fall offer the most consistent action, but Troy knows how to find them year-round. Stripers love to school up and feed aggressively, especially during those early morning hours when the surface temperature is just right. When they're busting bait on top, it's pure chaos—the kind of fishing that gets your heart pumping and makes you forget about everything else. They're also excellent eating, with firm white meat that fillets beautifully.
Blue catfish are Lake Texoma's other heavyweight champions, and Troy's got the skills to put you on some real giants. These whiskered bulldogs can exceed 50 pounds in these waters, making them some of the biggest freshwater fish you can tangle with in Texas. Blues are active feeders throughout the year but really turn on during warmer months. They're not the most glamorous fish to look at, but the fight they put up will earn your respect in a hurry. Plus, blue catfish are fantastic table fare—mild, flaky white meat that's perfect for the dinner table.
White bass might be smaller than their striped cousins, but they make up for it with sheer numbers and aggressive attitudes. During their spring spawning runs, you can catch them as fast as you can drop a line. They school heavily and compete fiercely for bait, making them perfect for getting kids and beginners hooked on fishing. Troy often targets whites when the striper bite slows down, and they're a blast on light tackle. They're also great in the grease if you're looking to fill the cooler with eating-size fish.
Lake Texoma's reputation as a world-class striper fishery didn't happen by accident, and Troy's track record speaks for itself. This isn't about getting lucky—it's about fishing with

Loved Troy. Great guy. Very knowledgeable on, not only stripers, but most fish. After the flood in April fishing was tough be he worked hard to get us on some. We even caught several catfish and he kept and cleaned them as well. Explained the diff between blues and channel. Looking forward to fishing with him again.

Blue cats are the giants of North American catfish, running 25-46 inches and averaging over 80 pounds in Texoma's deep waters. They're opportunistic feeders that'll hit everything from cut bait to crawfish, often scavenging under feeding stripers. These slate-blue bruisers love deep channels and muddy bottoms, especially around structure. Spring through fall gives you the best action when they're most active. What makes them special? They fight hard and taste great - plus that underbite means they'll surface feed more than other cats. Pro tip: let your cut bait sit still on the bottom. Blues won't chase moving bait, but once they find it, hang on tight.

Stripers are the main event on Texoma - powerful 20-40 pound fish with distinctive black stripes running down silver sides. They're structure-oriented, hanging around points, humps, and creek channels in 20-50 feet of water. Early morning topwater action is what dreams are made of, especially April through October when they're actively feeding. These fish pull hard and make long runs, giving guests that heart-pounding fight they're after. Plus, they're excellent table fare with sweet, flaky meat. The key is finding the bait schools - stripers follow shad, so I spend hours locating fresh bait before we start fishing. Match the hatch with your lure size and you'll connect.

White bass are scrappy 10-12 inch fighters that travel in schools and hit hard when you find them. Also called sand bass, they're silver-white with dark horizontal stripes and rough scales. These visual feeders love main lake points, creek mouths, and anywhere baitfish gather. Spring spawning runs up tributary arms are prime time, but they bite year-round in 15-25 feet of water. Guests love them because they're aggressive, fun to catch, and excellent eating - some of the best-tasting fish in the lake. When you locate a school, stay with them since they move in groups. Here's the key: small jigs in white or chartreuse work best, and fish them fast with a steady retrieve.
